The 2024 Fall Guided Trail Ride will be held on Saturday, September 7th, 2024.
Spring Guided Trail Ride has been cancelled for 2024
The Spring and Fall rides are primary means for GEHS to raise funds for various trail improvement projects. We normally schedule a spring and fall ride each year.
The 7.5 mile ride begins at Artillery Ridge Campground (610 Taneytown Road, Gettysburg, PA). Upon entry to the campground you will be directed to the ride staging area, where you will park your trailer and check in with our ride coordinator. You will be required to provide proof of a current negative Coggins Test before you unload your horses.(Remember: No Coggins – No Ride. This is a campground rule.) After you check in, it’s tack-up and time to ride.
The ride is approximately 3-4 hours long. You will be riding over the 2nd and 3rd days battlefield. The events of those days will be narrated by a guide. At the half way point of your ride there will be a short break. You may dismount, stretch your legs, water your horse. Upon your return from your ride, a lunch will be provided.
The trails on the battlefield are a combination of gravel and Antietam base. It is recommended that your horse have shoes or some form of temporary boots.
The trail rides are limited to twenty (20) riders, so advance reservations are strongly encouraged.
